July Top 100 Prospects Update

With the trade deadline looming, we have updated our Top 100 prospects for July. And once again, there’s a new No. 1 prospect following Paul Skenes’ graduation.

Nationals outfielder James Wood tops the list for the first time. He was the Nationals’ most anticipated debut in years and has hit his way to the majors by demonstrating equal parts savvy and prodigious power.

Wood is far from the only significant change. A dozen new players join the list, and there’s some significant movement as well, which we documented here for Baseball America subscribers.

The Mariners lead all organizations with eight Top 100 Prospects in this update. They are followed by the Cubs (seven) and Twins, Mets and Rays (six).

Today’s changes follow another month of extensive reporting and conversations with scouts and front office officials throughout the sport. Baseball America subscribers can see the full update below.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE RISERS TO KNOW

30 Prospects Generating Buzz In The Dominican Summer League

They may not be on the Top 100 list yet, but no one is better at identifying future standouts in the Dominican Summer League than Ben Badler. Today, Ben drops a list of 30 players already generating buzz this year after extensive reporting and conversation with scouts.

Some were million-dollar signings, but several others were mid-range or more under-the-radar prospects who have leapt ahead of players in their own organization who signed for more money in January.

With the trade deadline nearing, many of these players are likely to come up in trade conversations as teams look to pry away prospects who are far from the big leagues in hopes of landing the next Junior Caminero before he reaches the full-season leagues and his value explodes.

Who do you think will end up having the better MLB career?
