Konnor Griffin: BA’s MiLB Player Of The Year

When Konnor Griffin was drafted ninth overall by the Pirates in 2024, there were questions about how the high school shortstop’s immense athleticism, tools and upside would translate to professional baseball.

Following a historic 2025 campaign in he slashed .333/.415/.527 with 21 home runs, 65 stolen bases and 117 runs scored, the 19-year-old seems to have answered those questions emphatically.

Already the No. 1 prospect in Baseball America’s Top 100, Griffin can now claim another esteemed honor—BA’s Minor League Player of the Year.

To commemorate the award, Geoff Pontes spoke with Griffin about his breakthrough season, chronicling swing changes, huge production and a rapid ascension through the Pirates’ system that has the phenom prospect edging closer and closer to the major leagues.
