Revisiting 2025 Breakout Prospect Picks For Every Team

Each offseason as we compile our annual Prospect Handbook, Baseball America staffers take a closer look beyond the top names in each organization. While not all of our breakout prospect picks will hit, the exercise provides a great opportunity to look back on season-long performances for some of the offseason’s buzziest names.

This year’s list of breakout targets includes an impressive crop of rising players, including Red Sox righty Payton Tolle, an up-arrow Cardinals catcher and an entire slew of Yankees picks that were spot on.

FINAL REG. SEASON HOT SHEET

Leo De Vries Tops This Week’s Hot Sheet

Typically, Baseball America’s Hot Sheet ranks the 20 hottest prospects from the previous week. But with the minor league calendar almost over, this final regular season installment features just 10 players.

Topping the list is Leo De Vries, the 18-year-old Athletics shortstop acquired at the trade deadline from the Padres. De Vries, who is hitting .383/.420/.851 in September after some midseason struggles, has spent the final stretch presenting a perfect reminder as to why he’s one of the best prospects in the game.

As always, we’ll be hosting our weekly Hot Sheet Show on YouTube at 3:30 p.m. ET on Monday followed by a Hot Sheet prospects chat on Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET.

STATCAST STANDOUTS
