New No. 1 Prospect In The 2024 Draft...

We expanded our 2024 draft rankings to 300 players. Georgia's Charlie Condon takes the top spot, and that's just the start of an abundance of player movement.

Top 300 Draft Rankings For The 2024 Class

After five weeks of the college season we’re updating our 2024 draft list and expanding to the top 300 players in the class.

This class has been defined by its wide open nature at the very top for some time now, and that remains the case with significant movement in all areas of the list below. There’s a new No. 1 prospect on the board as Georgia’s Charlie Condon has used an exceptional offensive start to the season to make his 1-1 case while former Nos. 1 & 2 JJ Wetherholt and Nick Kurtz have both dealt with injuries and fallen back.

While Condon is in the No. 1 spot for now, there’s still plenty of competition at the top of the draft. Oregon State second baseman Travis Bazzana has continued mashing and is showing a bit more power, Florida two-way star Jac Caglianone has shined on both sides of the ball and both Wake Forest righthander Chase Burns and Arkansas lefthander Hagen Smith are making sure teams keep an open mind about selecting a pitcher up top as well.

Ultimately the 1-1 decision for the Guardians could come down to who continues performing (and remains healthy) throughout conference play. You can see our full Top 300 below.

Where Did The Prep Talent Go?

When we updated our 2024 draft rankings today there were only five high school prospects ranked inside the top 30.

The expectation for the 2024 MLB draft class for some time now has been that this year’s high school group is down. Thirteen scouting directors polled on the strengths of the draft class gave both the high school hitters and high school pitchers a below-average grade. In the four years we’ve done this polling, it’s the first time that either class has earned less than a 50 grade—let alone both of them.

Today, Carlos Collazo examines why this prep class is so unusual, and whether that’s part of a larger trend or simply an anomaly.

BA Polls

Leave it to Baseball America readers to be ahead of the curve. Nearly 39% of voters said Charlie Condon will go No. 1 overall when we asked earlier this month. Now, Condon assumes the top spot in both our 2024 rankings and our mock draft. Today, we’d love to get your thoughts on the pitching in this year’s class.

Which pitcher will be first off the board in the 2024 draft?

Chase Burns and Hagen Smith are off to hot starts in 2024. Will either of them emerge as the clear-cut top arm in the draft, or are you holding out hope for a late riser?
