Mock Draft 5.0 + New BA 500 Draft Rankings

Less than two weeks from the draft, we unveil our latest mock and an updated big board with new movement.

MLB Mock Draft 5.0: The Latest Buzz Following The College World Series

With the MLB Draft looming, Carlos Collazo dropped an updated mock draft this morning. His biggest takeaway since our previous installment? There's still a substantial amount of uncertainty at the top of the draft, perhaps impacted by the later draft date providing teams fewer opportunities to "scout the scouts" at games to gather intel on who's targeting who.

Even so, with the amateur season largely wrapped up, teams are busy finalizing draft boards. Among the teams picking inside the top 10, it feels like there are more players being considered at this point compared to a typical draft. Less clarity about what’s happening up top means teams picking behind need to cast their nets wider than usual. While there is a group of 10 players that most of the industry expects to lead off the draft, five college players continue to surface more consistently than the rest: Charlie Condon, Travis Bazzana, JJ Wetherholt, Jac Caglianone and Chase Burns.

Below, check out Carlos’ latest projection.

Updated 2024 MLB Draft Big Board

An updated BA 500 ranking accompanies today’s mock draft as well. The class is still headlined by a solid group of college prospects, with most scouts considering Charlie Condon and Travis Bazzana the clear 1-2 of the class.

While the top of the 2024 class is solid, the class as a whole falls short of an exceptional 2023 draft class. There’s a distinct fall off beyond the top tier.

“It’s definitely a below-average (class),” said one scout. “I guess if you cut the draft off after the top 10 picks it would be a good draft.”

Teams picking outside of the first 10 picks have a huge cluster of players that have been difficult to sort through and separate all spring, which could lead to plenty of chaos on draft day with boards that diverge sooner than is typical.

Today’s update features some significant risers, including a huge surge for prep shortstop Luke Dickerson, as well as brand new scouting reports and tool grades for each player in the top 200.
