Scout Survey: Evaluators Fear Game’s Direction Amid ‘Doom And Gloom’ Offseason
Each winter is a turbulent time for scouts working in baseball, but the 2024-25 offseason has been more brutal than many scouts can remember.
With that sentiment in mind, Baseball America presents the results of its 2025 Scout Survey, which polls scouts from across the country on the state of the industry. The results paint an insightful (and for many, alarming) picture on the future of scouting.
Given full anonymity in exchange for their candor, scouts provided insight on a variety of topics, including:
Job security
Most- and least-friendly organizations for scouts
Best and worst teams at identifying talent
Challenges to scouting & more
HOT SHEET SHOW AT 3:30 P.M. ET
The Hot Sheet Show is officially back for 2025, and we’ll be airing every other week now though when pitchers and catchers report in February.
To kick things off in the new year, we’re welcoming a very special guest: Royals top prospect Jac Caglianone.
Drafted sixth overall out of Florida this past July, Caglianone is one of the game’s premier power prospects, boasting top-of-the-scale power at the plate and a sinking fastball that touches 98 mph on the mound.
We’ll also be discussing J.J. Cooper’s first-ever Hall of Fame ballot, changes coming to college baseball and the scout survey results.
COACHES CONFIDENTIAL
Low And Mid-Major Coaches React To Roster Rule Changes
Jacob Rudner is back with another installment of Coaches Confidential, this time taking a deep look into how looming roster rule changes in college baseball are being perceived by low- and mid-major coaches.
Specifically, there’s major concern that, in response to the new 34-man teams, expanded fall rosters could inevitably lead to legal battles and a mid-year transfer window that would harm these lower-level programs beyond repair.
