LOOKING AHEAD TO THE 2025 DRAFT CLASS
2025 MLB Mock Draft: ‘Way Too Early’ Picks For Next Year
The world of amateur scouting moves quickly, and with the 2024 draft wrapping up yesterday, it’s full steam ahead for a 2025 class that scouts are eagerly anticipating after a down group this year.
As is tradition at Baseball America, we’re rolling out a ‘way too early’ mock for next year’s class. In the past, this exercise has been fairly useful at identifying top-of-the-draft talents. In last year’s version, six of the 10 players we mocked wound up going in the real top 10 in this year’s draft. You can check out previous versions here:
Though the actual order will be determined by the draft lottery, we don’t have that information yet, so we’ll be using the reverse order of the major league standings for this exercise. Of note, the White Sox have the worst record in baseball but aren’t eligible to pick until 10th at the earliest because they are a revenue paying team who won a draft lottery pick in 2024 and cannot have back-to-back lottery selections according to the new CBA. The A’s are also locked out of the draft lottery.
Check out the picks below, headlined by yet another Holliday.

Brand New NCAA, High School 2025 Draft Rankings
We’re kicking off the next draft cycle on a high note: With updated Top 100s for both our 2025 high school and college draft rankings following conversations with scouts and talent evaluators, plus in-person looks throughout the spring and early summer.
The 2024 class wasn’t particularly deep — nor was the high school class particularly strong. The 2025 prep class already looks more promising. Ethan Holliday holds on as the No. 1 player in the country thanks to his sweet lefthanded swing, eye for the strike zone and big power. There are also three players high up the high school list from Corona High in California, with all three having a chance to be first-round picks next year.
On the college side, expect to see several faces who starred in the NCAA Tournament, including Texas A&M star Jace LaViolette. We saw more college picks than ever in the the 2024 draft. Will this class continue that trend?
