Spring is a time for pitchers to experiment with new pitches. Enter the kick-change—2025’s trendiest new pitch.
To throw a kick-change, pitchers use their middle finger to “kick” the ball forward upon its release. The pitch isn’t actually new, but modern technology allows players to better identify its traits and make them actionable in coaching.
